Disturbing Pony Fact #2: Remember that no matter how evil and ill carried out the actions of the Changelings were.. without the sustenance of ponies' love, they would starve and die. They are ultimately rejected as a species for what evolution has handed to them, and this is a revelation few choose to accept.

This is gotta be one of my favourites recently. It ticks all my boxes, and pushes all my wallpaper buttons.. So to speak.

the solution to the "changeling problem" is that changelings must become third (or even fourth) parties in extant relationships, forming three/four-somes in which at least one partner has an exact duplicate. assuming these triads (or tetrads, as the case may be) are consensual, the possibility of a partner not being their true self isn't an issue. at this point, it merely becomes a contest of "is their act flawless". it appears that their ability to assume a guise is based directly on the love they feed off of, so assuming they are in already pure relationships, there is no risk.

this also has the added effect of allowing couples to spend more time together, as changelings feed off of nothing save for love (i would, in fact, presume that their bodies cannot even handle normal food; see chrysalis' spitting out of the wedding food even though it harmed her disguise's integrity for proof), meaning that they are fully capable of devoting themselves wholly to a relationship. i would hazard that this would then allow the relationships to grow ever more loving, as there is more "together time" to foster a strong bond.

If I understood this correctly.. Your solution is that a couple in love would mutually accept a changeling or two being assigned to them to feed from their love? Or that they become duplicates of each partner, so there'd be some four way relationship going on, mix n' match style?

a mixture of the two. if your love can feed others, and through doing so, you receive more (perceived) time with your companion... it's win-win-win-win.
